Happy belated New Year everybody! Wow. Talk about being late. Should have written this like three weeks ago but better now than never. I had a pretty awesome new years though. Played a show with the band at a local bar, partied and had a great time.

Here is a video of one of the cover songs we performed that night. I am obviously the huge Sasquatch in black playing guitar. Thanks to Other Sid for shooting and putting together this video the night.

The awesome people over at Android Police wrote an article about an app called AirDroid which is a great way to manage your Android smartphone’s apps, contacts, message, music, files and much more right on your desktop browser.

Basically the app connects to your WiFi connection and gives you an IP address and password to enter into your desktop web browser.

Once you connect your browser using the IP address and the generated password, you are presented with a browser window that looks like what is in the above picture.

If you have an Android device this is a must have app. Great interface, awesome features like media management for music, pictures, movies, contact management, app management and more. Check it out.

Have you heard the new Mastodon album entitled The Hunter? Well, if you haven’t it would behoove (ha, thanks teacher) you to at least check it out.

This isn’t going to be a full review of the album but merely my personal opinion.

In the past, Mastodon has always been fast, aggressive and angry music that I am sure wouldn’t apply to most people. Personally I listen to this type of music regularly so I have always been a fan of Mastodon. But their new album The Hunter has something I think everyone can enjoy.

The cool part of this album is not only the awesome instrumentals but the vocal performances by almost every member in the band. Now they have always experimented with different members singing in different songs but they outdid themselves on this album.

Here is a live performance of their new song “Curl of the Burl” on the David Letterman Show.

I honestly could listen to this album everyday and for me that is saying a lot. There aren’t too many album I could say that about. So if you are looking to expand your music library with something new, do yourself a favor and check out Mastodon’s new album The Hunter.

Apparently May is the last time I updated anything on this site so I figured it was time for some new stuff.

Mainly the overall look of the site has changed. Unfortunately if you have never visited my site before you will have nothing with which to compare. But hopefully anyone reading this will find it cool or at least somewhat interesting.

Honestly I am not too concerned if people hate it or not. It is my personal site. I like it.

But that is not to say I’m not open to any suggestions for improvement. I am always trying to get better at web designing so if you have a valid point, let it be heard.

So What is New?

Anyway, the majority of my time lately has been spent working, spending time with my family and occasionally playing some gigs with the band. If anyone doesn’t remember, I was laid off for the month of May (which sucked) but since June have been back to work doing the same job just under a different company name. Nothing really changed except for a few employees not returning but I wish them luck.

Nicholas, Melanie and I had a really fun summer. In July we took Nicholas on his first camping trip and he had a blast. We stayed two nights at a local campground and had fun fishing, cooking out, kayaking, swimming, getting sunburnt really bad and relaxing.

In August, for Nicholas’ birthday, we took him to see The Wiggles and we had an awesome time. The hotel we stayed at had a nice pool so went spent most of our time swimming and relaxing there.

I think it was sometime it late September or early October that we adopted a new cat. It is pretty fun to watch the two cats we have duke it out randomly.

Finally got a new car which is a welcome luxury. After dealing with high mileage junkers for most of my life, it is nice to have something I know is reliable and more importantly safe. Especially with winter on the way.

Well that is about it for now. I will go ahead and include a recent picture of Nicholas. Have a good one!

Indeed the title of this post is true. The last month or so has been less then favorable but I guess that is part of life. Just when you think everything is going well and bound to get better life reminds you it isn’t it can all go south quickly.

Out of Action

So to start off, I was laid off at the end of April. The company I worked for decided they didn’t want to be in business anymore and along with other reasons I shouldn’t mention they closed shop and sent it’s employees packing. Awesome right? What made this situation really great was they gave us a two day warning. Not months or weeks but two whole days. Needless to say, they had some pissed off people on their hands.

But honestly getting upset was the last thing I was interested in doing. A few employees, obviously very upset with this news, decided to lash out verbally at the employees. Of course this thought had crossed my mind but I figured that doing that wouldn’t help me in my career as a graphic and web designer. I simply thanked them for allowing me to work for them as long as I had and went my separate way.

Teal Lightning Fizzles Out

After about a week of being laid off my car decided to die on me. I didn’t really have much hope for it honestly. Being a 1992 Mazda Protege with over 370,000 miles, it wasn’t going to live much longer. So there wasn’t really much surprise there it just sucked that I was out of a vehicle that was paid for.

It’s Going to Be OK!

This about all my wife and I could tell ourselves these past few weeks. Our determination to stay positive has been the single most important factor in dealing with this situation. There is hope on the horizon. We are still here in our house having fun, getting through each day and soon I will be returning back to work for a different but similar company. I am hopeful and looking forward to what the future has in store for us.

Photo of the Day

Since it has been a while, here is a new photo of the day. Nicholas and I had fun the other day cooking out and cleaning up the yard.
